A woman was knocked to the floor in the early hours of Saturday morning in Baldock by someone who ran off laughing.
The attacker is reported to have taken a swipe at the woman’s feet when she was walking along Yeomanry Drive at about 1am, causing her to the fall to the ground.
The woman – who was left with cuts and bruises to her face – got herself up and continued to walk home before reporting the incident to police.
Investigating officer Det Con Jeanette Walker said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim to experience, but thankfully she did not sustain serious injuries.
“It may be that the people responsible thought they were being funny, but it wasn’t funny for the woman concerned who has been left understandably shaken and hurt.
“Incidents of this nature are rare in Baldock and we are doing all we can to find the people responsible.
“I am appealing for anyone was who in the area at the time of the offence and saw the incident take place, or the events leading up to it and after, to please get in touch as soon as possible.”
