The winter steam season is hotting up with historic locomotives due to visit Stevenage on three dates in the coming months.

Heritage rail tour operator The Railway Touring Company has announced that its White Rose, Lindum Fayre and Christmas Tynesider steam specials will be stopping at Stevenage on route north.

On Saturday, November 12, The White Rose hauled by magnificent locomotive 60019 Bittern will depart from King’s Cross, Potters Bar and Stevenage for a day out to York.

The Lindum Fayre will also call in at Stevenage on its way to Lincoln for the ancient city’s famous Christmas fair on Saturday, December 3, hauled by ‘Giant of steam’ 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley.

Both 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 60019 Bittern are A4 class Pacific steam locomotives built in the 1930s to haul express services between London and Edinburgh. Their sister locomotive Mallard famously achieved the world steam speed record racing along at 126mph in 1938.
