My thanks to North Herts District Council, Hertfordshire Highways and anybody else that had a hand in paying for and erecting the speed calming flashing light at the Letchworth Gate end of the road in to Willian village. After a similar sign was erected on the opposite end (The Fox Public House side) over 12 months ago, I wrote in my column suggesting a similar sign approaching the other end of the village - the side that was and is used as a speed circuit rat run towards Stevenage and Hitchin. The sign now stands proud and flashes regularly at the speedsters. If it saves just one life it will be worth it. Certainly, there is more hope now that the village's pensioners (not me quite yet!) trying to cross the road past the village hall now have a better chance of getting to the other side!
