In the roadside verges leading into Pirton will be protected as a result of the large variety of flowers found in last year's survey, (81 species) HCC has approved the designation Heritage Road Verge. Perhaps more importantly, they have allocated the necessary funds for the county's specialist contractor to maintain it for the next year (2006/7). This ensures that mowing will only take place at times of the year (early and late) that will encourage the flowers to thrive by keeping down the less desirable small shrubs, brambles and long grasses.
