POLICE are appealing for a key witness to contact them after an alleged sexual assault.

Officers want to speak to the driver of a white lorry or van who gave a woman a lift in Hitchin on Monday June 8.

The woman, in her 40s, is believed to have got into the vehicle on Woolgrove Road and travelled to Grove Road. She then got into a red van and was driven to a property in Hitchin, where the alleged assault took place. The incident took place between 12pm and 1.30pm.

DC Donna Norris, from the Sexual Offences Investigation Team, said: "We are very keen to speak with the driver of a white lorry. He was not involved in the assault but we believe he has vital information that will greatly assist our investigation."

A 37-year-old Hitchin man has been arrested and released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.
