PLAYERS, officials and fans at Biggleswade Town Football Club said goodbye to their ground at the weekend, ending over a century playing at Fairfield.

Next season they hope to move into new facilities at Langford Road even though the foundations have yet to be dug or the pitch laid.

The club signed off from Fairfield with a 2-1 victory against Royston Town and are now looking forward to starting a new chapter in the club's history that stretches back to 1874 when the club was formed.

But the uncertainty of whether the new ground will be ready for the start of next season has meant the Waders opening talks with three other local clubs on the possibility of ground sharing until the new facilities are ready.

"These are just contingency plans," said Waders' press secretary Graham Arkwright.

"We are entitled to a £100,000 grant from the Football Foundation and this will be used on a new pitch and clubhouse which we desperately need if we are to progress up the football pyramid.

"We need new facilities because the old clubhouse was in danger of falling down."

Among the spectators watching the final game at Fairfield on Saturday was former player and current committee member Terry Baldwin and his two-year-old grandson Ben Skidmore.
