Darren Sarll says he is looking to add more players to his Stevenage squad but any he brings in should be prepared to ‘roll their sleeves up’.

Boro have been trying to bolster their ranks this week to help them stay clear of the League Two relegation zone, and have spoken with four players about joining the club.

Stevenage have already used more players than any other side in League Two so far this season – 44 – but recent injuries to the likes of Charlie Lee and Aaron O’Connor plus on-loan Spurs defender Connor Ogilvie and QPR winger Jake Mulraney have left the squad thin in areas.

Today against Northampton Town they were without a recognised right-back due to a thigh injury for Ronnie Henry, with teenage midfielder Dale Gorman filling in.

Dean Wells, the centre-half, was also missing while Fraser Franks was sent off in today’s game, meaning an impending suspension for him if the club do not appeal the red card. Elsewhere at the club midfielder Dave McAllister has suffered a setback in training by injuring a ligament.

Writing in today’s matchday programme chairman Phil Wallace said there was a need to add experienced players to the squad, and speaking after the 3-2 defeat Sarll added: “We’ve tried Thursday and Friday with four experience players. All of them are waiting on a thinking process or have already said ‘no it’s not for us’.

“We’re not an attractive proposition at the moment. You’ve got to have the right type of person to come here.

“It’s important during the process that we filter the right type of person. That’s why it’s as low as four people that we’ve targeted.

“They’ve got to come in and roll their sleeves up. You saw today [on-loan Hull striker] Greg Luer’s commitment to our cause and he’s the right type of person that we need this moment in time.

“He’s got lots of quality and we’re going to need him. Today saw inexperienced errors by some inexperienced players and at this time you want your solid men that can come in and deal with the threat that we’re under and the pressure they play under.

“Dale Gorman should be absolutely applauded and Ben Kennedy for their substance, physiologically, today.

“It’s a tough game to come into it. It was Dale Gorman’s fourth game. He has done magnificently out of position.”
