Dozens of children learned all about firefighting on Saturday when Baldock’s fire station opened its doors to the public.

Baldock & Letchworth fire station in Weston Way welcomed pupils from St Mary’s Infant School for the annual open day, along with many other youngsters who came with their families.

The attractions included a chip pan fire demonstration, a rescue from a ‘crashed’ car using cutting equipment, fire safety advice and a teddy parachute launch.

Letchworth mum Laura Roberts was at the open day with her five-year-old son Barney, who is pictured in our gallery below.

She said: “Barney thoroughly enjoyed the open day. Particular highlights included him climbing in and out of the rescue boat and getting into a real-life fire engine.

“The experience inspired him to such an extent that we had our own little Fireman Sam – complete with outfit and helmet – for the entire weekend! We had to dress him up again before we took him into town on Sunday.”
