TOP marks for saving water have gone to Purwell Primary School, Hitchin.
They were given after an audit was carried out by Three Valleys Water.
It sent along its education studies manager Ted Casey two years after a previous audit.
Since then the children have made posters reminding staff and pupils to turn off taps, and the school has invested £22,000 on water-efficient sinks, push taps and low-flush toilets.
"We found that of the 58 taps, none was faulty and just one was left dripping," said Mr Casey. "This is an outstanding result. The pupils throughout the school are very water conscious."
Headteacher Elaine Barren was thrilled with the visit, saying: "The children were very pleased and felt that they were very much part of the improvement and are helping the environment. We were very pleased that Three Valleys Water recognised what we had done."
The school has a gravel garden and will work with Three Valleys Water next term to select the best plants and make it as water efficient as possible.
