Owners of Vauxhall cars are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of thefts across Stevenage.

The latest occurred on Saturday when a Vauxhall Corsa had its front and rear number plates stolen while parked in Basils Road.

If follows a series of thefts between June 24 and 29 when wing mirrors, tow bar covers and disks were taken from Astra models in Lonsdale Road, Bedwell Rise and Ruckles Close.

A handbag was also stolen from a Corsa while it was parked overnight in Shephall Green.

PC Andy Bryder, who is investigating, said: “Car crime continues to be an on-going problem in Stevenage, but recently we have noticed that Vauxhall vehicles seem to be targeted in particular. We would appeal to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity with as much detail as you can.

“We would also urge people to put cars in garages overnight if they can, use their drives if they have them and try and park in lit areas. Make sure you remove all items from your vehicle when you leave it and never leave any valuables on display.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Bryder on police non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
