A wanted man sustained a broken leg when police officers forced their way into his car to arrest him after he failed to stop.

The man, who was driving a silver Saab, failed to stop on Norton Way South at the junction with Station Road, Letchworth GC at around 3pm on Friday.

During the arrest the man sustained a broken leg and was taken to hospital where he remains.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and for a warrant issued by police for an outstanding criminal matter.

The incident has been referred by Herts police to the Independent Police Complaints Commission which investigates any injuries sustained while in police custody.
