North Herts District Council intends to redevelop Bancroft Gardens and launched an online and street survey in August in conjunction with environmental charity, Groundwork Hertfordshire, but it is unclear when the results of the survey will be made public.
Concerns were raised over a proposal to grass over four public tennis courts and the plan to create a hard surface multi-use games area on the lower bowls green.
Other concerns raised were car parking provisions for Hitchin Town Bowls Club and the relocation of Hitchin Bridge Club to Hitchin Town Hall once their current venue, Bancroft Hall, is demolished.
Cllr Ian Knighton, the council’s portfolio holder for leisure, said: “We hope to know by August 2014 whether our lottery bid has been successful. If so, it would be great news for the town.”
