Westley thanks Vincenti and says letting Boylan leave was ‘tough decision’

PETER Vincenti has joined Aldershot Town on a free transfer.

Vincenti, who has just returned from a loan spell at Mansfield Town, made 64 appearances for Boro and scored the club’s first ever goal in the Football League earlier this season.

Speaking about Vincenti, Boro boss Graham Westley said: “I would like to thank Peter for his tremendous and unselfish contribution to Stevenage’s success in the past two seasons.

“He has been a truly exceptional professional and I wish him very well in his future.”

Vincenti leaves just days after fellow striker Lee Boylan left the club, while Tim Sills has also been placed on the transfer list.

Boylan’s contract ran out and was not renewed after an injury-hit 12 months, and speaking to The Comet today Westley said it was a tough decision to let the striker go.

“Lee will tell you himself that it was a tough decision for me to make,” Westley said.

“I love him to bits as a player; he’s a tremendous worker, goalscorer and professional but his injury record kept him from selection too often.

“He’s just had one of those years where he’s picked up one knock after another.

“He’ll probably go somewhere else and stay fit over the next few years and bang in lots of goals, but you’ve got to look at games played by players and the cost of the games he’s played and you’ve got to have a decent enough record. If I could have put a framework in place [to keep him] I would.”
