THE fate of a plot of land that has been the centre of controversy for years hangs in the balance.
North Herts District Council and campaign group SOGS (Save Our Green Space) are battling it out at an inquiry to decide whether the land should be granted village green status or sold.
NHDC want to sell the land but the field has been left green for more than 20 years which gives it the legal requirement for village green status. SOGS are campaigning for this as it would afford the land legal protection so it can never be built on. Paula Farrant, an active member of SOGS, said: "We have still got work to do but we are not feeling like it's an impossible goal."
The inquiry has now been adjourned until December 11 and a final decision is not expected to be made until the New Year.
