A MAN who was stabbed to death in Stevenage last night (Monday) has still not been named.

Officers were called to King George V Playing Fields in Stevenage, at 7pm (Monday) after a report of an incident between three men.

Police who have since launched a murder hunt say a man in his 20s was taken to Lister Hospital and later died of what is believed stab wounds.

A police spokesman said: “Two men ran towards Sish Lane in the old town. One of the men is described as wearing a blue hooded top and the other wore black trousers.

"We would like to reassure members of the community in Stevenage that incidents of this nature are not a regular occurrence. A mobile police station has been positioned in the area should members of the public have any concerns. A team of highly skilled detectives are investigating and an incident room has been set up for people to call with information."

DCI John Giles of the Herts and Beds Major Crime Unit who is heading the investigation, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of the King George V Playing Fields yesterday evening and has any information in relation to the incident to contact the police with information. If you saw what happened or believe you saw the suspects leaving the area call the incident room on 01707 355959.”

A post mortem was due to be carried out this afternoon (Tuesday).
