ROBBERS were chased through the streets by police, a lawyer and a cow today (Tuesday).
But they were not in trouble, just trying to win the annual Hitchin pancake race.
The race was the culmination of a morning of flipping madness as contestants ran the length of the High Street and into Market Place to mark Shrove Tuesday.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Hitchin Priory the event raised funds for Letchworth GC's Garden House Hospice, St John Ambulance and Stevenage-based charity Wheels, which helps wayward youngsters gain apprenticeships.
Daniel Fair, representing the fire service, won the men's category. Louise Bloxham, from Talents hairdressers, triumphed in the ladies' section and Gareth Davies, from BBR Architects, got away from the cops to take first place in the fancy dress race.
