Firefighters are currently battling a tractor blaze.

Fire crews and police officers were called to Clothall Road at the junction of Whitehorse Street in Baldock at about 12.55pm after reports that a tractor and a trailer were well alight. Spilt fuel on the road is also on fire.

One fire engine from Baldock and two from Stevenage are currently at the scene of the blaze, which took place near the traffic lights.

No injuries have been reported, but police are assisting fire crews and have closed Whitehorse Street at the junction with High Street.

Danny Bunyan was a passenger in his girlfriend’s car when he witnessed the tractor catch alight.

He told the Comet: “We were waiting right at the front of the traffic lights

“It was just smoking and within two to three minutes it became engulfed in flames. It went up really quickly.

“My girlfriend was really scared about it exploding so she speedily drove off.”

Update 2.35pm: The fire is out and crews are dampening down.
