A COUNCILLOR was left to clear up broken glass after vandals struck for the second time at a popular children's play area.

Cllr Nigel Aldis cleared away smashed bottles left by youths hanging round Bedford Road recreation ground in Sandy.

He said: "The police called on Saturday so I had to go along to make it safe. There was shattered glass all over the play area and on the grass.

"Whoever did it made an obvious attempt to break the glass as much as possible.

"This is the second time in six weeks that this has happened."

He said he hoped the incident was caught on the CCTV cameras which will be viewed soon.

He said: "The play area is extremely popular with young people so it was essential that it was cleared up as it was very dangerous."

Cllr Aldis hopes the introduction of a police community support officer (PCSO) in the area will stop vandalism.
