Vaisakhi parade takes to Hitchin’s streets

The colourful Sikh festival Vaisakhi will be taking to the streets of Hitchin today.
The annual event is a harvest festival for Punjabis, observed as a thanksgiving day by farmers for abundant harvests and praying for future prosperity.
The procession will leave the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Temple in Wilbury Way at around 1pm.
From there it will move through the town before returning to its start point at 4.30pm.
The route takes in Grove Road and Nightingale Road as well as Bancroft, Bridge Street, Queen Street and Hermitage Road in the town centre.
