A man was pronounced dead at the scene when he was hit by a train in Meldreth this afternoon, police have confirmed.
There are severe delays and buses have been ordered to replace trains between Royston and Cambridge after the incident at 3pm.
Great Northern services are running between London King’s Cross and Royston, but not beyond the town.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to College Farm crossing at Meldreth, to reports a person had been struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Cambridgeshire Constabulary and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are working to identify the man, inform his family and understand the circumstances of his death.”
