A further two cars have had their tyres slashed in the last 24 hours in Hitchin police have revealed today, bringing the number up to seven in 72 hours.

The unexplained acts have sparked fears there is a ‘serial slasher’ at work in the town following five incidents reported yesterday.

Officers confirmed both tyres on the driver’s side of a Mercedes 180 were slashed in Lyle’s Row between 6pm last night and 9am this morning – along with a single tyre being slashed on a Toyota RAV4 in St Andrew’s Place.

The mindless attacks follow previous incidents this week in Lancaster Avenue, York Road and Baliol Road.
