Two men were arrested on suspicion of poaching pheasants near to Hitchin.

The pair, a 24-year-old and a 23-year-old, both from London, were arrested on Wednesday after people reported individuals behaving suspiciously in the area of Lye Hill in Breachwood Green, near Hitchin.

Police then arrested the men on suspicion of poaching and trespassing.

A vehicle parked close to the scene containing dead pheasants was also seized.

North Herts Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector Duncan Sales said: “We won’t tolerate poaching and will deal robustly with anyone committing this crime.

“To help us in the fight against poaching we rely on reports from members of the public.

“I’d encourage anyone who witnesses people poaching or behaving suspiciously in the county’s rural areas to call us on 101.”

Both men have been released on bail and are due to return to Hatfield Police Station on December 15.
