POLICE discovered over 1,600 cannabis plants when they searched an industrial unit in Letchworth GC on Friday.

Two men were also arrested during the search by officers from the Eastern Area Tactical Team of the unit in Lacerta Court off of Works Road.

Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Jason Thorne said: "We are committed to tackling illegal drugs in our communities and continue to actively work to combat already low levels of drug misuse and dealing in North Herts through our ongoing campaign Operation Crystal, which aims tackle the supply of illegal drugs in Hertfordshire.

"Local people are our eyes and ears in the community and I would encourage anyone who has information about drug taking to share this with their local officers by calling the non emergency number 0845 33 00 222.

The two men who were detained at the unit Trung Kien Tran, 25, and Duc Than Le, 38, both of no fixed abode, have been charged with cultivating cannabis plants and were remanded in custody. Both appeared before St Albans Magistrates' Court yesterday.
