POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a teenager was assaulted and hospitalised following an attack in Stevenage last week.

The victim, a 17-year-old man from Stevenage, was approached by a man in Canterbury Way at around 7.30pm on Monday, January 10, who asked him for a cigarette.

A second man then approached the victim and assaulted him, leaving the 17-year-old with serious injuries.

Following the incident, the victim ran to Ripon Road and flagged down two people in a car who took him to hospital. DC Graeme Anness is investigating and said: “We are keen to trace any witnesses to this incident, particularly the man who asked for a cigarette prior to the assault and the couple who picked the victim up and took him to hospital.

“If this was you, or if you have any information about the assault, please call me via the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.”

*An 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Stevenage, have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
