A CHARITY is urging TV viewers to back its bid for a share of £1.5 million to help create a community park.
Groundwork Hertfordshire, as part of the national Groundwork charity, is one of three organisations going head-to-head on GMTV this week in the People's Lottery contest.
Viewers will get to decide which charity receives the £1.5 million funding.
Groundwork's proposal, entitled Safe and Sound, would see the money divided among 25 projects across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The local branch would work with North Hertfordshire District Council and North Hertfordshire Homes to build a community park on the Grange estate, Letchworth GC.
The aim is for the park to act as a focal point for the community, encouraging more activities for younger and older residents and discouraging crime and anti-social behaviour.
Steve Harvey, executive director of Groundwork Hertfordshire, said: "All of the projects Groundwork delivers are designed to meet the needs and demands of local people in the areas that we support. The People's Millions contest provides an opportunity for us all to register how important these new facilities are to improving the quality of life in Letchworth.
"Safe and Sound is all about getting people from different generations to understand each other's point of view and work together to improve the environment we all share and create valuable facilities in areas that need some investment."
A report on the Groundwork proposal appeared on GMTV this morning (Thursday) and voting will take place between 7am tomorrow (Friday) and noon on Saturday via phone, text and online. For more information, visit www.gm.tv or
