REALITY television star Paul Danan was today (Tuesday) ordered to pay 350 for a variety of offences, including two counts of drug possession, at Stevenage Magistrates Court.

Former Celebrity Love Island and Hollyoaks star Danan, of Jepps Lane, Royston, pleaded guilty at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to the possession of a controlled class A drug, possession of cannabis, and a public order offence.

The 32-year-old was arrested in Royston for all the offences.

The court heard that a member of the public called the police at 10.35am on September 4 to report a drunken man who was staggering around and falling into the road in Kneesworth Street.

A police officer offered to take Danan home, who was reportedly slurring his words and claiming he had lost his wallet and phone.

Rufia Khatun, prosecuting, said: “Officers noted he smelled of alcohol and that his eyes were heavily glazed.”

Once in the back of a police van she said he became aggressive and started hurling abuse at the officer.

Danan was arrested for a public order offence and was taken to the police station where cannabis was discovered in his left sock.

The court was told that Danan said he got the cannabis resin “from a friend to help him with his anxiety”.

Danan was released from custody, but later officers were called to a disturbance at a block of flats in the town where he was attempting to enter the building.

He was searched and a small bag of white powder fell from his pocket. It was later tested and found to be cocaine.

Mrs Khatun said: “A small bag fell from his pocket. It was white powder. The defendant admitted it was cocaine that he got it from a friend and they were both going to use it.”

The court was told that Danan later changed his mind and told police that it was for his friend and that he was not going to ingest the drug.

Defending, David Stott said: “His life is in a bit of a mess at the moment. He’s been suffering from depression and anxiety and is taking prescribed anti-depressants.

“He moved to Royston a couple of months ago to get away from the pressures of life in London and have a calmer place to live in.

“He has had a problem with cocaine in the past, but has not used it for a couple of months.”

Danan told the court that he suffered from depression and anxiety problems that occasionally led to self medication.

He was also referred to a drug treatment programme and Danan said he was currently receiving treatment for his anxiety problems.

Danan was fined 100 for possession of cocaine, 65 for possession of cannabis, and 85 for the public order offence.

He was also told he must pay 85 towards the prosecution costs and a 15 victim surcharge.

Danan played Sol Patrick in Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001, and appeared on Celebrity Love Island in 2005 and 2006.
