CLOTHING retailer Ethel Austin, that has a shop in Eastcheap, Letchworth GC, is to shed 469 jobs immediately.
The company went into administration for the second time in as many years on Monday. Most of the jobs will go at the company's head office and depot in Knowsley, Merseyside.
Administrators MCR said today 129 stores would also close making further job losses inevitable. It is not known whether the stores in Stevenage and Letchworth GC are among those being closed.
Closing down sales at the affected stores will begin tomorrow. The rest of the group's 300 stores will continue to trade normally while the administrator looks for a buyer.
