Machine gun killer Miran Thakrar was jailed for a minimum of 42 years today (Monday) after being found guilty of murdering three men on a living room floor.
Thakrar, 24, who had been a small time drug dealer, gunned down Keith Cowell, 52, his son Matthew, 17 and a third man Tony Dulieu, 33, after paying out £2,000 for a machine gun.
Thakrar was angry that he had been cheated in a previous drug deal and was out for revenge.
He lined the three up in the living room at the Cowell family home in Plaw Hatch Close, Bishop's Stortford, after first shooting the family's dog.
Then, as his brother Kevan looked on, he slaughtered all three.
Passing sentence today at St Albans Crown Court, Mr Justice Cooke told Thakrar: "This was a cold blooded multiple murder carried out in a savage way."
The judge told him it had been pre-planned.
During the trial, the court heard how Miran Thakrar tried to murder two women who were in the house by stabbing them.
Amazingly, Clare Evans - the girlfriend of Matthew Cowell - survived and so did a second woman Christine Jennings.
Mr Justice Cooke told Thakrar he had attempted to eliminate the women as witnesses.
Thakrar's brother Kevan, 21, of Lomond Way, Stevenage, was found guilty of all three murders and attempting to kill the two women. He will be sentenced at a later date.
Following the killings, Miran Thakrar fled to Northern Cyprus with his girlfriend Amanda Dansie, 21. of Buntingford.
Today she was jailed for four years for assisting Miran Thakrar to escape justice.
His father Atul Thakrar, 47, of Northwood, Middlesex was also convicted of assisting an offender and jailed for four years.
So too was Yilay Tufensoy, 20, of Enfield who was a close friend of Miran Thakrar.
