A MUCH loved character around Arlesey and Mid Beds has been laid to rest.

Gerald Warren, otherwise known as Big Ged or the man mountain, had the perfect send off at St Peter's Parish Church in Arlesey last Thursday.

The 50-year-old was a supporter of Arlesey Town Football Club and Henlow Cricket Club and was a popular figure around Mid Beds and beyond.

Reading football star Dave Kitson, a former Arlesey Town favourite, attended the funeral along with more than 200 mourners.

There was standing room only as tributes were read out to the larger than life icon of the village. His coffin bore the flag of his beloved Manchester United.
