A pensioner injured during the storms that swept the area on January 18 has died.

Harry Valentine, 77, from Stevenage, was struck by debris from a tree as he and his wife, Iris, walked at the back of Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre.

Mr Valentine, a former engineer at British aerospace in Stevenage, died at the QE II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City on Monday where he was being treated for serious injuries.

Only last week Mrs Valentine, who suffered a broken leg and other minor injuries in the incident, talked exclusively to The Comet about their ordeal saying it was a miracle they both survived. The couple had been married for 52 years.
