Police say they are continuing to “monitor the situation” after travellers have driven a number of caravans onto the edge of a Stevenage park.

Officers have been in touch with Stevenage Borough Council after more than 10 caravans parked up on the edge of Fairlands Valley Park – near the roundabout connecting Fairlands Way with Chells Way.

The borough council had already asked a group of travellers to move on Canterbury Park after they parked up on Monday night, with the same group believed to have then headed to Stevenage’s Town Centre Gardens later this week.

Regarding the previous two incidents, a spokeswoman for SBC – which has powers to serve an eviction notice – said the authority had visited the travellers to ask them to move on as they are on public land.
