Travellers who had pitched up at a Stevenage park have moved on today after an eviction notice was served.

A court order prohibiting the group from parking up at all open land which Stevenage Borough Council owns was agreed yesterday after the authority’s requests for them to move on from the land on the edge of Fairlands Valley Park were not heeded.

The order came into force at 11am today, and the travellers then moved on. The Comet’s sister title the Welwyn Hatfield Times is now reporting the group has pitched up in Welwyn Garden City, not far from Panshanger Golf Course.

Prior to heading to green space in Fairlands Valley Park – near the roundabout connecting Fairlands Way with Chells Way – the same group of travellers had parked up in Stevenage’s Canterbury Park and then the Town Centre Gardens.
