A man has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A1 near Biggleswade.

The crash happened on the southbound carriageway of the road between Sandy and Biggleswade at about 11.15am, when a car left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries to his head and chest and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge by the Magpas air ambulance.

The road was initially shut in both directions between Junction 10 for Baldock Services and the A6001 for Biggleswade north, but has now fully reopened.
