A FIVE-CAR pile-up on the A1(M) during this morning’s rush hour (Friday) is causing heavy traffic delays.

The police were called at 8.10am to a crash involving five vehicles on the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) between junction seven for Stevenage and junction six for Welwyn.

No one has been seriously hurt in the incident but the overtaking lane has been closed as a result of the crash.

Motorists are currently experiencing heavy delays in both directions while vehicles are recovered and spilt oil is cleared.

A police spokesman said the accident is also believed to have had a knock-on effect on traffic in the surrounding area, including heavy queuing in Stevenage.
