Traffic has been backing up on the A1(M) following a five-car crash near Stevenage.
Police and ambulance were called to Junction 7 just before 11am following a collision on the southbound carriageway involving five cars.
It is not yet clear if anyone has been injured but a police spokesman has said traffic on the motorway remains heavy – although the carriageway was clear by 11.10am.
A black BMW 3 Series, a grey Volkswagen Polo, a black Seat Leon, a silver Skoda Octavia and a grey Toyota Auris were involved.
