Amid all this morning’s A1(M) traffic problems, cars heading north on the motorway were forced to swerve by a swan that wandered onto the carriageway.
The swan made its way onto the motorway just before the Galleria tunnel near Junction 3 for Hatfield at about 8am.
Police reacted by putting a rolling roadblock in place around Junction 2. The carriageway was clear by 8.20am.
A force spokesman said: “I believe the swan was moved to a nearby grassed area.”
There have been delays of up to an hour and a half on the A1(M) southbound this morning between Letchworth and Welwyn after a lorry breakdown, with several major roads around North Herts and Stevenage gridlocked as a result.
