Stevenage roadworks which reportedly caused delays of up to 80 minutes yesterday are set to be completed today.

The Gunnels Wood Road underpass was shut yesterday morning by Herts County Council while ‘surface dressing work’ took place, but closures in place near the junction for Six Hills Way were lifted during rush hour due to large queues around Stevenage.

The closure – which a HCC spokesman said was in place to slow vehicles down over the newly surface dressed section – was reinstated later, at about 10am, for about two hours.

It is in place again today from 10.30am for two hours to allow for a final sweep of the road surface, with the Comet informed all the work should be complete by then.
