Stevenage road closed after pensioner hit by car

A PENSIONER has been seriously injured after being hit by a car when walking in Stevenage this morning (Friday).

Police were called just before 10am to reports of a collision on Vardon Road, opposite The Oval shops.

A woman, thought to be in her nineties, has been taken to Lister Hospital.

Road closures have been put in place on Vardon Road and are expected to remain in place for the next hour.

The male driver of the car - a black Vauxhall Corsa - was uninjured.

Enquiries into this matter are ongoing and police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the incident take place to contact PC Ian Breacher on the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
