Emergency services were called at about 5.45am after a black Audi A4 crashed into the shop window of iFix Computing in Station Road.

Two ambulances, the Hazardos Area Response Team and the Magpas air ambulance medical car all attended, and, after initial treatment at the scene, the female driver was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage for further care. A police spokesman described the woman’s injuries as ‘serious’.

Police shut the bottom of Station Road – close to the roundabout for Norton Way North/South and Birds Hill – but the road has now reopened after the car was recovered by Herts County Council’s highways team.

The fire service had also attended earlier to assess any structural damage to the building.
