Roadworks will disrupt drivers and public transport in Hitchin for seven weeks beginning later this month.

The work on the A505 at the junction of Cambridge Road and Woolgrove Road/Willian Road to improve safety begins on July 26.

Stuart Pile, executive member for highways and transport at Herts County Council, said: “In order to keep disruption to a minimum we have scheduled these works to take place during school holidays when roads aren’t so busy. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey while we carry out these essential safety works.”

From mid August all traffic approaching the junction from Woolgrove Road and Willian Road will be forced to turn left onto a diversionary route. Details of changes to bus routes will be posted at bus stops.

A council spokesman said most work will be done during weekday daytime, with some at weekends and during the night towards the end of the scheme.
