A man accused of causing the deaths of two car passengers after fleeing police in Stevenage, appeared in court today (Tuesday).

Michael Cush, 27, of Luke Place, Bedford is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking and failing to stop after the grey Audi A3 police believe he was driving sped away from officers at Stevenage Leisure Park in the early hours of Friday November 2.

The ensuing high speed chase involving four patrol cars ended in tragedy in Woolmer Green when the Audi crashed into a lamppost. Karl Spencer, 25, of Bedford, died at the scene. Cameron Nimmo, 20, also from Bedford, died from his injuries at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge the next day.

Cush was remanded in custody at St Albans Crown Court until a hearing on January 16.
