Commuters taking the train tonight face disruption as engineers work to fix a signalling problem at Royston that has stopped all services between Hitchin and Cambridge.

National Rail indicated at about 6.20pm that there would be no trains between Hitchin and Cambridge until 9pm.

This will affect Great Northern and Virgin Trains East Coast services.

UPDATE at 6.45pm: Trains are now running on all lines, but delays are expected.
