A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A1(M) last night (Monday).

Emergency services were called at about 6.30pm to the northbound carriageway near to junction 6 for Welwyn following a collision involving a BMW F800 motorbike and a red Vauxhall Astra.

An ambulance service spokesman said the motorcyclist, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage with a serious leg injury but her condition was not life threatening.

The motorway was shut following the crash, causing heavy delays.

Police left the scene at 8.15pm.
