A burst water main has caused considerable damage to a road which has had to be closed as a result.

The main burst on Bedford Road in Letchworth at around 6am yesterday, with the road shut so engineers can fix the pipe.

The leak was fixed by 6pm later that day but the road remains closed today, as the surface is deemed to be unsafe.

A spokesman for Affinity Water, the company which is carrying out the repair, said: “The burst caused considerable damage to the road which is still closed with diversions in place. The surface is currently being repaired and the road will reopen tomorrow, Thursday.”
