A major road in Hitchin is to be closed for periods over a month from today as it gets a new surface during the school summer holidays.

The section of Grove Road between Nightingale Road and Woolgrove Road will get a new surface and improved drainage as part of a work to tackle frequent flooding problems – with repairs also done to the foundation of the road.

Work started on Monday and is set to end by Saturday, September 8. The work will be done in phases, meaning the road will not be totally closed for the entire time.

While crews are working there, they will also resurface parts of the A505 in Nightingale Road and Fishponds Road, as well as a section of the A600 Bedford Road, during overnight road closures between 8pm and 5am.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during all the closures. The main diversion has low bridges restricting access for tall vehicles, so special arrangements have been made for HGV access via Bury Mead Road.
