Rail line Great Northern’s operators have apologised to North Herts commuters after a lack of crew prompted cancellations this morning.

Govia Thameslink – which runs the Great Northern line – has cited a staff shortage over its decision to drop today’s 6.52am service from London King’s Cross to Cambridge, which stops at all stations from Stevenage onwards.

Also cancelled is the 8.34am train from Royston into the capital – which calls at Ashwell & Morden, Baldock, Letchworth, Hitchin and Stevenage before Finsbury Park and King’s Cross.

The railway apologised to passengers who enquired about the latter cancellation through its Twitter page, writing: “Sorry, this service has been cancelled due to a shortage of train crew.”

A Baldock commuter tweeted back: “This also happened Friday. Are you planning on cancelling this packed commuter train every day across the summer?”

Another, from Hitchin, posted: “Disgusted – why do we pay such a high rail fare when you cant even get trains running on time or at all!”

Great Northern’s timetables indicate that other services into London this morning are still set to run, albeit with delays in some cases.
