AN air ambulance was called to North Herts Leisure Centre, Letchworth GC, at approximately 9.23am today (Thursday) after a man was taken ill in the swimming pool.
Two ambulances and the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.
Gary Sanderson, ambulance service spokesman, said: “Prior to our arrival, the man who we believe to be in his 80s was rescued by life guards after he was taken ill in the swimming pool.
“Paramedics found the man in a critical condition and following treatment by paramedics and a doctor from the air ambulance, he was rushed to an awaiting medical team at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.”
The helicopter landed nearby ,in the grounds of Letchworth Rugby Club, but the man was taken to Lister Hospital, Stevenage, by a regular ambulance.
