An air ambulance has been called this afternoon, Thursday, after an elderly man collapsed outside a supermarket in Stevenage High Street.

The man, in his 70s, was walking along the high street when he collapsed outside Waitrose just before 1pm.

Two ambulances were called and the Herts Air Ambulance, which landed in a car park behind the store in Primett Road.

The man is currently receiving medical treatment at the scene.

Update 2.20pm: The man has been taken to Lister Hospital in Stevenage by land ambulance. A spokesman said he is in a “critical condition”.
