The A1(M) is being shut in both directions so an air ambulance can land, following a crash involving a lorry and a car this morning.

The collision, which occurred just after 9am on the northbound carriageway between Junction 4 for Hatfield and Junction 6 for Welwyn, has left a man in his 40s trapped inside his Ford Focus.

The motorway is being shut between J4-J6 both northbound and southbound so an air ambulance can land and attend to the man, who is said to be in a serious condition.

An ambulance spokesman added that the lorry driver was ‘walking wounded’.
