THE A1(M) was shut this morning (Friday) after a pile-up involving up to six cars.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway just past the Hatfield Tunnel at about 6.30am after a crash involving “up to six cars”, a police spokesman said.

Drivers were treated for minor injuries, with the closure of the motorway between junctions 4-2 causing major delays.

The A1(M) reopened at 8.45am, although a further collision followed half an hour later between junction 4 and 3.

There was also a crash involving two cars on the northbound carriageway at junction 2 at 7.45am.
